Patients who fail to keep their hospital appointments cost the hospital both time and money. It is vital that once patients are given an appointment for any type of care, they keep the appointment or give the hospital clear advance notice if they are unable to attend.
Patients who fail to keep their outpatient department appointments are estimated to cost the hospital £3 million a year which could be used to improve patient care. (Each missed outpatient appointment costs the hospital between £60 and £280 depending on the outpatient clinic).
There are numerous reasons why patients do not attend their appointments. Patients can get better before their appointment is due and don’t require the appointment any more. It is important that ALL patients ring and cancel their appointment if they cannot make it:
The Patient Appointment Centre number is 0151 529 2223.
The Trust is now working with patients through Partial Booking and Choose and Book to provide the patient with the choice of a time and a date for their appointment to suit their own lifestyle, and at the hospital of their choice.
Cancel it or keep it – but please don’t waste it!
