Aintree’s Theatres Department provides a modern, state of the art surgical service for elective, daycase and emergency surgery.
Comprising of 18 operating theatres and four recovery areas, located across four theatre suites, the department covers a comprehensive range of surgical specialties and procedures.
The department provides excellent surgical facilities for patients 24 hours a day, in a clean and friendly environment, delivered by teams with a vast range of expertise and skill.
Surgical specialities covered over the four theatres suites include:
- General surgery, including urology, breast and vascular surgery
- Ear, nose and throat
- Complex head and neck surgery:
- Maxillo Facial Surgery
- Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Day case surgery that includes Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Gynaecology
The department also manages the Accident and Emergency department theatre suite that provides a 24-hour emergency operating theatre for all specialties, a MFU trauma/General Surgical theatre and also a seven day a week orthopaedic trauma theatre.
The Theatres department is comprised of theatre staff, operating department practitioners, nurses and theatre assistants all of whom are also supported by theatre porters and theatre administrators. These support teams work closely with the surgeons and anaesthetists to ensure the best possible quality of care for patients.
