Northwest Assistive Technology is a specialist regional service based at Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust that provides assistive technology and advice to people with disabilities.

Assistive Technology (AT) is any product or service designed to enable independence for disabled and older people

Serving a population of 6.7 million people in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside, Lancashire, and South Cumbria regions, the team works with a wide range of electronic assistive technologies and with a wide range of individuals with severe disabilities such as brain injury, Guillain Barre syndrome, Multiple sclerosis, Motor neurone disease, Muscular dystrophy or Spinal Injury.

Examples of a standard installation include:

  • Intercom and door release
  • Hands free telephone
  • Access to all entertainment equipment (TV, Sky, DVD, CD, radio)
  • Alarm to alert carers
  • Remote access to turn on a lamp or a fan
