Haematology is the branch of medicine and pathology that is concerned with the study of blood, the blood-forming organs and blood diseases.

The Haematology department provides a comprehensive service for patients with malignant and non-malignant blood disorders.

Supported by large diagnostic laboratory that provides a broad range of routine and specialist tests, the Haematology department delivers a range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic services through both outpatient clinics and inpatient services.

Services and treatments provided include:

  • Management of patients on Warfarin
  • Chemotherapy administration • Blood transfusions
  • Blood tests
  • Day case procedures such as bone marrow examinations
  • Hickman/PICC line insertions

Referral information

The department accept referrals from GPs and hospital specialists 

The Team

The Haematology department is staffed by consultant haematologists supported by a multidisciplinary team that include trainee doctors, nurse specialists and other varied clinical staff.
