Patient support services
The unit is supported by a multi-denominational chaplaincy department.
Patients are supported by our extensive multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, a dietician and other members for the team.
A Critical Care Follow Up Clinic is held weekly for any patients who have spent more than three days in the department.
Patients and relatives will be sent an invitation to a Follow Up clinic to discuss their stay and recovery around two to three months after their discharge from hospital.
This allows the team to answer any queries patients may have and ensure they are making a full recovery.
The Critical Care Department contains an 11 bed intensive care unit and a 12 bed high dependency unit.
Referrals to Critical Care are made by any of the doctors or nurses in the hospital when they are concerned about a patient.
The Critical Care Department is staffed by a highly skilled and experienced multi professional team that includes critical care trained nurses and doctors trained in intensive care medicine. Other specialists from across the Trust provide input where necessary.
