New figures reveal Aintree has the largest number of apprentices of any NHS organisation in Merseyside and Cheshire.

Two young apprentices who trained at the hospital are encouraging others to follow in their footsteps as their NHS career prospects were given a huge boost by Aintree.

Amy Garcia, 20, from Walton and Louise Lee, 24, from Netherton, both took a 12-month Level 2 Apprenticeship at Aintree.

Amy, who studied Healthcare, has now secured her place in a formal nursing training course and Louise, who learnt the ropes of Business Administration, is taking further steps to ensure her future lies at Aintree.

Both hope their success inspires other young people considering a career in the NHS to opt for an apprenticeship.

Amy, who will study Nursing at Edge Hill University in March 2019, said: “Aintree’s apprenticeship programme helped me grow personally and professionally. It was lovely to leave the ward each day knowing my work had helped someone lead a healthier life. The support I received from my nursing colleagues was second to none and will help me have a bright future.”

Louise, who is now studying for a Level 3 qualification in Business Administration, said: “From day one of working at Aintree I knew that I had made the correct decision. My apprenticeship with the hospital was a hundred times better than any I had previously done. The atmosphere at Aintree is great - I’m constantly singing its praises and recommending it to my friends as a place to work and grow. I hope to stay here for many years to come.”

The latest figures show that since September 2017 Aintree has recruited 43 young apprentices into jobs, and nearly 100 other staff are using apprenticeships to increase their skills.

Ruth Hoyte, Director of Workforce & Organisational Development, said: “This is a real success story for local young people and our other staff. Apprenticeships are helping us to build a strong future workforce and increase the skills of our existing staff – that’s great news for Aintree, our patients and the NHS as a whole.”
