During the winter period, our Accident and Emergency Department can get very busy at times, and you may wait longer than normal to be seen.
Choose Well is a public information campaign to highlight the range of services available for people – without having to wait for an appointment – if they have a minor illness, ailment or injury.
The main message from Choose Well is that 999 and A&E services are for people with serious injuries, illnesses and emergencies. There are a number of other services that people can use for minor ailments and injuries, such as walk-in centres, urgent care centres and minor injuries. And pharmacists can give advice and over-the-counter treatments for coughs, colds and stomach upsets such as sickness and diarrhoea.
For information about alternative health services in the North Merseyside area, such as pharmacists, walk-in centres and minor injuries units go to www.nhs.uk/servicedirectories or contact your local primary care trust.
